Topic Brainstorm

For this blog post, I was really fascinated by the ideas of writing stories about the moon.  I saw that lunar legends were one that was previously done. I think the idea of the moon being a reason that people do things for is really awesome. I think it is interesting and I really think it is something I would be interested in writing about.

Mermaids is another topic I would be interested in. It is something I have been interested in for a while, ever since I was young. Now I know that Mermaids and things like Sirens have a darker history so I would like to explore that in my writing and make it more than just happy stories.

Sea Monsters is also a cool story idea, unsuspecting sailors. I think it would be fun to write about this because I don't think I have seen many stories out there just about them other than the loch ness monster. I would like to take my own turn on suspicious sea stories or maybe even include the Bermuda Triangle.

Lastly, Fairytale Princesses would be a top choice for me. They are something I grew up with so to be able to make my own fairy tale would be a really cool project for me. I have a niece who is only 2-years-old and is currently obsessed with princesses. I like the idea of making my own stories to read to her or incorporating her into it.

Rejection has always played a big part in my life. I used to be a competitive cheerleader so being rejected was something I was used to, but it always made me so doubtful of my skills. While reading Why Rejection Hurts So Much, everything made a lot of sense. It explains why it makes you so sad. it gives great information on how to deal with it and make yourself feel better in a time of rejection.

This is my second year of being a PTA for a Gateway class. Seven Ways to Crush Self-Doubt in Creative Work was really inspiring because I do doubt myself and what I am capable of. I want to inspire my students but sometimes I feel like they don't think I am good enough to be a PTA.  I learned from this that I am still growing as a teacher (even though that isn't what I want to be.) I love inspiring young minds so I hope they see me as someone they can trust, but I am still doubtful.

Week 2 Story - A Finnish Love

Long ago, the Prince of Finland, Armo Twain, fell in love with a young girl. Her name was Ansa. She as a normal girl, only 18-years-old. Her parents were commoners from the lower class. They struggled to get by but Armo saw her true beauty.

When Armo went to Ansa's parents, they were shocked by his question - asking for their daughter's hand in marriage. They wanted what was best for Ansa but didn't think the wild prince was there truly for love.

They told Armo that to get their permission for marriage, he must announce all of his wrongdoings to the world, followed by his love for their daughter. They did not want their daughter to run off with a party boy who would eventually break her heart.

Armo left that day, determined to fix his life and be the perfect man for Ansa. He scheduled a town hall meeting where he would confess to his wrongdoings and how he has not handled things so well in the past.

At the meeting, he announced to the public that he had vandalized the city, but blamed low-class commoners. He had a child on the way with a married woman. He drank and did drugs all while being underaged. His family was furious with him for putting such a poor name on their status.

After he did this, he did not realize he would not be exempt from all punishments because of his social status. He was stripped of his title and forced to leave the country as a punishment for his sins. He never returned to Ansa's house and was never married.

Armo died early and very unhappily. He was always in love with Ansa, who married a few short years later. They never saw each other again.

Authors Note:
This story was based on 'The Lion is in Love" by Joseph Jacobs in 1894. I was really fascinated by the lion stories. I loved the idea that the lion is the king of animals but can still be seen so poorly. This idea randomly came to me and it is the first fiction story I have ever written.

Reading Notes

For my first reading notes, I have been reading these stories from a website and have already found out some writing styles that I do and do not like.

The Divine was an overall interesting story, but I was not a fan of how the language was used. It made it hard for me to read and I want my story to be a very easy, fun read.

The Supernatural has already caught my attention with the picture they used. The story wasn't as something super interesting to me. I was a little disappointed but I did think it was a cool idea.

Reading Options

For reading A of week two, I explored the untextbook and found some really fun articles that have peaked my interest.  The Celtic Fairytales was one that really fascinated me. I have been skimming the stories and am excited to go further into these and read them.

Another one that I really liked was the Nursery Rhymes. It seems so basic - like everyone knows them ( or should) but in reality, they are very original and deep. They seem a tad bit scary too.

The third one I found interesting was the Indian Fairytales. I am excited to read them and explore on if they are really telling their kids these stories or the history of where they came from.

Time Management

Reading the important article, The Important Habit of Just Starting, it made me feel encouraged/ I have always struggled with time management and procrastination. There would be days where I just couldn't do anymore. I truly love what I do so it is hard to get started. This article reminded me that it is okay to learn how to get started and take your times.

The other article I read, The Myth of "Too Busy". It simplified it down to prioritizing your time, not required things. The author explained that busy is something that can happen, but how we prioritize is how we deal with this thing. This made sense to me. I can't say I am too busy with homework and then not go see my family, then I would be prioritizing my homework over them.

Growth Mindset

Growth Mindset

I have never heard of Carol Dweck's growth mindset before, but I am glad I did here. It felt important for me to look at these things like she said. Reading all about Growth Mindset has fascinated me/ It is something I think I will start keeping a blog about. It sounds like it could better my mental health.

Learning the Technology

The technology for this class is quite fun. I have used things like Canva before and I also have photoshop on my computer. I have downloaded Diigo and am currently learning how to use it.

It will be fun to learn how to use different technologies and just ask my boyfriend every time I need help.

First Impression Assignments

My first impression of this class is unlike any other. The amount of freedom and trust are given to the students is amazing and really makes me think our professor has our best interest at hand: learning. This is a class I don't feel like I will have to worry about my grade in but really be able to learn and have fun with the content. I got into this class last minute and I am really excited to continue on and have fun with it.
Me when I found out how much fun this class was going to be.

Introduction to a Tired, Travelling Student

My name is Danielle Larios and I am a 19-year-old public relations major with a current minor in sociology. A current exciting thing about me is that I am thinking about double majoring instead of just getting a minor. It would be so fun! I love school so I always overwhelm myself with taking too many classes every semester. I am currently enrolled in 21 hours which is the most I have ever done. I am excited for the challenge I will have this semester.

Just two weeks ago I came back from Germany where I studied abroad for two months. I only had class on Friday, Saturday, and Sundays so Monday through Thursday we would travel everywhere. We went to countries like Austria, Switzerland, France, Czech Republic, and the Netherlands. I took six credit hours and knocked out my mandatory electives for my major. I got to do some really cool things like swim the Rhine river, see where the Sound of Music was filmed, and go VIP to a Beyonce concert because one of my childhood best friends is her back up dancer. We had a lot of fun the entire summer so I am kind of sad to be back in Oklahoma but I did absolutely miss the Chic Fil A.

While I was away for the summer I found out that I love way more food than I thought. I had friends in Switzerland make me homemade risotto so that became an instant fan favorite. Not only did I experience new foods, but I reread the entire Harry Potter series (again, whoops), I watched RuPaul's Drag Race, Handmaids Tale, started Big Little Lies, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. I love watching TV shows. As I type this, I am currently watching The Office with my boyfriend who has never seen it before. I haven't seen a movie in a while, but I have been wanting to see Mamma Mia 2. I heard it wasn't really good, but I would still like to see it. I love Mamma Mia. I love musicals in general.

I am excited about this semester and especially excited for Mythology and Folklore!

Storybook Favorites

When scrolling through the different storybooks, this one really caught my eye, It was fascinating and kept my attention through the whole thing. I wanted to know what was going to happen next. It did a wonderful job of keeping the attention through the entirety of the story. I thought the use of scary stories was sort of original and something to keep me entertained.

For Pixie Tails, I wasn't a fan of these stories I enjoyed the idea of pixies and it was new to me. The title did a good job and the summaries of each story were pretty accurate for me. It did not catch me like the horror stories did. I really loved the layout of how the stories were set up. It was simple and easy.

Gossip Greeks I thought had a really cool idea. I thought it was funny to bring a modern-day idea to a Greek interpretation. It showed that maybe humans haven't changed, everyone has gossiped at least once in their life.

The design of all three storybooks was really nice and easy to follow along. It was fun to click from tab to tab to know the next part of the story or to find a new development.  The introductions were all really nicely done. My favorite was Robbie's Tale, I was really interested in the horror aspect. It can be hard to write something and it not be cheesy, but I thought it was nice. The design feature I liked was done in Robbie's Tales and Pixie Tales - I really liked the navigation being horizontal on top,  not on the side.

Overall, Robbie's Tales were my favorite to read and I would love to try and write something like that, although it can be very hard.

My Favorite Place:

Salzburg, Austria

My favorite place I have ever been to is in Salzburg, Austria. I studied abroad in Germany this summer and had the opportunity to travel to many different countries in Western Europe. The scenery is gorgeous and it really felt like somewhere I would want to stay for a long time.
