Growth Mindset: Learning to Have One

25 Simple Ways to Develop a Growth Mindset

There were many things to learn in this article, but one thing that was confirmed for me was trying a different method. The article talked about how it wasn't a one size fits all type of learning so if something doesn't work for you, it can work for someone else. It just means to try your best and acknowledge your imperfections and learn from them!

Something I am going to start doing is replacing the word failing with learning. Making it a 'better luck next time' instead of an 'I just failed out of college.' I think I really beat myself up about it and that is not something I should do anymore. I want to change my words so I have a more positive outlook on life.

I am now curious about research for brain plasticity. I want to know more about my body so maybe the place to start is my brain so I can learn more about it.

Famous Last Words: We Are Half Way Done!

It is the halfway point of the semester and reality is kicking in... My first class has ended and midterm grades are coming out. This hasn't bee n my best semester but this week I got my second wind and have more motivation than ever to do well!

My first class ended with a B which is okay... but I am striving for better. I am doing worse in my sign language class than I would like, but I am struggling so hard with it. A level three language is really hard but I am getting it done!

I am a known procrastinator and sleep inner so from this point on I have made the promise to myself I will go to ALL of my 9:30s for the rest of this semester - this will suck because the weather is cold and I hate doing anything before 10:30 AM, but I will survive and I will do well.

I am not exactly where I want to be in this class. I have made the extra effort ( even though it is past midnight and now I am in the grace period.. Bless the grace period because I would struggle without it. I have been so busy I have not taken part in the extra credit but it is super fun - I have really enjoyed it so far.

I am also having an internal debate on if I want to graduate a semester early. I do not think I am ready to go out into the real world but maybe I need to. Should I double major? I have it declared but I am not sure if I will stick with it. If I do that I would be on a normal track to graduate in four years, meaning I would have about a year and a half left of college. I have had so much fun at OU and really love what I have done with my time here. I have experienced and learned so much that I never want to leave, but I know the time will be coming soon. It is heartbreaking for me.

Until next time - I hope I have a great week !

Tech Tips: Canvas Calendar

I am a junior at the University of Oklahoma. I only had one class on D2L so I have really been using Canvas for about two years now. I can count on one hand the number of times I have opened that calendar because I have always preferred my actual planner.

My time management isn't always the best but I really liked the idea of the calendar and how it can cross things off for you. I think from now on I am going to be relying on it more. I think I am willing to learn how to use google calendar and I am looking into it more. The more organization the better!

Week 8 Progress

I am happy with the work I have done but I wish I had a better grade. From this week on I plan on finishing my work early so I can work on extra credit work to really get my grade up and going. It is something I have been meaning to do for a while but I have been so busy. My weekly routine has been kind of off but I am hoping since my class finished I will have more room for my schedule. I haven't done any extra credit but that starts today! I like that the more I write the more detailed I get because of all the practice I have. I know more descriptive is more fun to read.

For the second half of the semester, I plan on working harder AND smarter. I don't want to get lazy or let my depression take control of me. I want this semester to go really well so that is what I am trying for!

Week 8 Comments and Feedback

Overall, I really like the feedback I am getting from other people. I always see a new way to look at my story. I especially like when people reply to my story as a character - I think that puts a really cool perspective of the story that I had not even thought about.

I have found some good feedback strategies. In the beginning, I was afraid to hurt other peoples feelings. I have now found out a way to phrase it where I don't feel bad suggesting new ideas. When I read others feedback to me it also gave me new ideas on what I should do.

I really like reading other peoples blogs! I think it is a fun way to see people's creative side. I have also seen that I have a lot of similarities as other people in the class - we have the same major, we both love animals, silly things that I feel like I can really relate. I have a few of their blogs saved to keep up with them in the future!

I think I just want to carry on with what I am doing and maybe try a new style of doing feedback instead of the same ones over and over again. I like how my introduction and everything is looking so I am pretty satisfied.

I know I am not always the best at what I do but I enjoy it and I have fun and I am getting better. I have always been really hard on myself so I am really trying to be better about that.

Week 8 Reading and Writing

For me, the readings are really fun and inspiring- taking the small notes helps reminds me what I did and did not like apart of the stories. A new thing I am going to start doing is adding what I would have actually liked to happen and how I can make the story my own.

I am really happy with how my blog looks now! I had the opportunity to redecorate and make my labels seen on my website. I am more thrilled with my new design, it is really fun and something I enjoy looking at. I also really like my project website. I still have some things to work on but I really like how it is turning out - it is something I am proud of.

In the beginning, I didn't think I would enjoy the story posts, even right before I do them I dread them a little bit - but now the more I do it and the more I read into mythology, the more excited I am to make work of my own. I always have fun while writing even if I am not the best at it. I like the creative outlet it gives me.

I would consider my biggest accomplishment in my writing so far is gaining confidence in myself. The more I write the more I have fun doing it so it is a nice outlet for me to have while I am stressed or not having a good day.

My absolute favorite reading so far has been about Scherzade - it was also my favorite to write. Out of all the stories I have read that has been the most details and I loved the details.

I am not unhappy with my reading notes - but it isn't my favorite thing to do. What distracts me is having to stop to write something down so I think I will start reading the stories all the way through and then take notes about what I didn't like or liked.

I have not yet found any reading or research strategies but I do try something new each week!

Looking back I haven't been working on this class as much as I have wanted to in the past. Now that one of my 8 weeks class is over I plan on spending more time on Mythology will make me happier!
This is one of my favorite images I have seen, it went with my favorite story. I thought it was beautifully done.

Back up and Review!

My favorite imagine in a previous stream of our class was the one where my picture was posted. I always wanted my picture to be on there - e...
